Monarchs Raise Alarm over Non-Issuance of NIC to Deltans

The Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, DSTRC, has expressed deep concern over the delay in registering and issuing permanent National Identity cards to Deltans.

The Chairman of the Council and Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Major-General Felix Mujakpuero (Rtd) Orhue 1 in a 4-point communique at the end of the meeting of the monarchs in Asaba, urged the “Management of National Identity National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, in Delta State to expedite action on the registration process to enable Deltans to get the permanent National Identity cards.”

The DSTRC also lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for successfully hosting the 13th Extraordinary General Assembly of the South-South Monarch’s Forum in Asaba and prayed to God to strengthen and protect the Governor for all his efforts towards moving the State forward.

The Council also congratulated Governor Oborevwori on his 61st birthday anniversary and asked God to continue to bless, protect, and give the Governor more wisdom as he pilots the affairs of the state.

The royal fathers also took time to pay a visit to the wife and members of the Royal family of the late Asagba of Asaba and former Chairman of the Council, Obi Professor Chike Edozien. At the Ceremony, the Orodje of Okpe extolled the leadership and inspirational attributes of the late Asagba.

He enjoined the wife of the late monarch and the family to take solace in the fact the deceased lived a life worthy of commendation and left indelible footprints in the sands of time.

In his remarks, the 1st vice Chairman of the Council and Pere of Akugbene Mien, Luke SP Kalanama V111 said the late monarch played a major role in the agitation for constitutional roles for Traditional Rulers before his demise.

Responding on behalf of the family one of the sons of the late Asagba, Engineer Louis Edozien thanked the Traditional Rulers for the visit saying the burial rites of the monarch will end on the 28th of this month.

The visit was attended by Traditional Rulers from across the state including the immediate past Chairman of the council and Obi of OWA, Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor 11 JP OON.
