Delta Community Invokes Local Deity over Youth’s Death
… Vigilante Head Absolves Self over Accusation
The people of Owa Kingdom in Ika North East local government area of Delta State have invoked the wrath of the local deity’s to unravel the circumstances behind the killing of a youth on Christmas Eve.
The Chairman of Ika North East Local Government area Vigilante Group , Eng. Amos Ikechukwu Agbobu has denied any involvement in the killing of one Awo Fredrick Madukaibe.
The victim, a middle aged man, and popularly called Awo was short dead by unknown person on December 23th, 2023 on his way to a neighboring community of Idumuesa, few kilometers from Owa Oyibu , in Ika north east local government area of Delta State.
Few days after the ugly incident, a section of the youths in the community started pointing accusing fingers on the chairman of the vigilante group.
This development unsettled the community as threat to break down of law and order was mounting.
The police has since wadded into the matter as high level investigations has since commenced.
However, the vigilante Chief has since washed his hands off the killing of the young man saying he knew nothing nether did he order such action against the deceased.
To compliment the efforts of the law enforcement agents and to asurge the anger of the restive youths in the community, the Traditional Rulers of Owa Community , His Majesty Obi Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor 11, Obi of Owa initiated a traditional mean to unravel the Mistry behind the death.
To this end, some of the notable herbalist where invited to invoke the wrath of the gods on the perpetrators of the crime.
The Head of the community Vigilante , Amo was also invited for an oath to prove his innocence before the village deity , as the anger of the gods will also go after anybody who further wrongful accuses anybody of the killing.
Giving his approval for the oath-taking, the Owa Monarch, His Royal Majesty Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II who spoke through the Ison of Owa Kingdom, Sir Chief Kenneth Okwurimonu Okocha stated that it is the custom of Owa Kingdom to result in traditional means of finding out the truth of a difficult issue in the presence of the people such as going to consult a soothsayer and admit to take an oath traditionally amidst pronouncements.
“In spite of the series of questions we have asked Agbobu, he insists he has no hand in Awo’s death and he has admitted to taking oath to prove his innocence.
Earlier, Engr. Agbobu before Obi Efeizomor, elders, and the people who turned out to witness the oath reiterated that he has no hand in Awo’s death as he has been accused and gave his consent to take the oath and pronouncement.
According to Agbobu, “On that fateful day of December 22, 2023, at 9:16 pm, I received a call on the phone by a member of the Vigilante group in Idumuesah unit by name Nkechi who informed me that two men were shot before the railway flyover and one identified as a barber close to my house and I pleaded with him to help take them to the hospital.
The assistance I rendered has turned against me for I am now being accused of masterminding Awo’s killing.
“I want to use this opportunity to tell Ika people and the whole world that I know nothing about Awo’s death”, he claimed.
Meanwhile at the end of the oath-taking, Obi Efeizomor in his remark condemned the murder of Awo, saying that the truth of whoever has a hand in the killing must surface.
